Tropical Storm Melissa is predicted to escalate to a rare Category 5 storm as it turns in the direction of Jamaica, bringing life-threatening flash flooding and rock falls.
The hurricane, which registered wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to reach land by early next week, according to meteorological authorities.
Warnings of electricity outages and damage to infrastructure have been released as Melissa produces up to thirty inches of precipitation and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above normal levels. "Find safe refuge immediately," residents have been told.
