The royal figure gives up his designation as the Duke.
He is surrendering his honors, such as the York's Duke, he has announced in a personal statement.
He has been under increasing pressure over his links with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with calls for the royal household to take measures against him.
That now seems to have led to the figure deciding to of his own accord hand back his titles and to give up involvement of the Order of the Garter.
In his message he said he continued to "firmly deny the allegations against me".
"In talks with the King, and my close and extended family, we have decided the persistent allegations about me divert from the duties of the monarch and the monarchy," said a statement from Prince Andrew.
"I have opted, as I always have, to put my responsibility to my kin and country first.
"I support my resolution five years ago to step back from public life.
"With His Majesty's agreement, we think I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer hold my designation or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously refute the accusations against me."
The royal has faced a range of scandals, including a court case he ended with Virginia Giuffre, inquiries about his money matters and his association with an alleged Chinese spy.
He will stay a royal - but will stop to be the the Duke, a designation bestowed from his the late Queen, the late Queen Elizabeth.
Andrew had already ended to be a "working royal" and had forfeited the use of his royal style and no longer was seen at official royal events. His position now will be even more reduced.
His former spouse will be known as Ferguson and no longer Duchess of York, but their daughters will continue to have the title of princesses.
He has been under intense scrutiny over his associations with convicted sex offender the financier, more lately featuring inquiries about when he had really severed communication.
In his BBC Newsnight interview, he had said that he had severed all links with Epstein after they had been photographed together in the city in late 2010.
But messages sent in February 2011 later came to light indicating that the prince had confidentially continued in contact with the financier, such as exchanging a note: "Stay in contact and we'll have further interactions soon!"
There had been increasing frustration in the royal household at the controversies that continued to surround the prince.
Soon a late publication by the accuser will be issued which is expected to cast further focus on his connection with Ms Giuffre and Epstein.
