Following the premiere, HBO has revealed that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for Halloween.

Taking place within the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry is inspired by the original story while enlarging the setting established by the It movie director in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One highlighted young characters facing supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that the prequel follows in those footsteps. Nevertheless, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it aimed to raise the stakes, delivering heightened horror than the movies and creating a harsh vibe for what's to come.

Located in the early '60s, the program introduces a fresh cast of adults and children inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town masking a sinister core. The town functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—characterized by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. While It: Welcome to Derry might sound like it leans too heavily to the cinematic adaptations at first, what sets apart the streaming show is its dual perspective—unfolding through the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. The kids remain especially susceptible to the entity's fear, but grown-ups aren’t spared facing their individual fears arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.
