Russell Wilson Responds at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Regarding Quarterback Comments
NY Giants quarterback Russell Wilson didn't mince words on social media this week, responding to recent criticism from his former coach Sean Payton.
"Tasteless... but not surprised...," Wilson declared via social media. "Didn't realize you're still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the press."
The quarterback's response pointed to the infamous bounty scandal controversy from 2009-11, when Payton was coaching the New Orleans Saints.
At that time, the NFL determined that the Saints had incentivized team members for delivering hard hits on opponents. Consequently, Payton was suspended from the NFL for a full year.
What Sparked the Recent Dispute
Wilson's reaction came after Payton delivered remarks after the Broncos' historic comeback victory over the New York. Payton remarked that the Giants had "discovered new energy" with their new QB, who has taken over Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton hinted that he had told Giants owner John Mara that he would rather facing Wilson instead of Dart.
"I spoke to John Mara not too long ago and I said, 'We hoped that the switch would've happened well after our game,'" the coach stated.
