Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Manager Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months after leading derogatory chants targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds was ended amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Wilder amid the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves away from the drop zone.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder
Both men had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Struggles
