Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
