Followers Urge Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account includes recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Several followers blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another message on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including several who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
