Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Concerns.

'Significant concern' for the English camp after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The pace bowler added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "during the day".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three England players to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed the previous Test.
