Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of hiring a new manager.
O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
