Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
